Tom Perry Special Collections is pleased to announce the availability of a new digitized collection: Myron Alma Abbott autobiography (MSS 661). This handwritten autobiography of Abbott was written in 1917. It includes a description of Abbott’s life including his birth in Weber County, and life in Tocquerville and Plymouth, Utah, before moving to Bunkerville, Nevada, in 1877. He describes the stay of the Mormon Apostle, Wilford Woodruff, when he was in Bunkerville while dodging federal officials for polygamy. Also includes Abbott’s marriage to Mary Leavitt in 1881 and life in Annabella, Sevier County, Utah, from 1886-1910, where he was involved in Sevier County politics. Concludes with description of life in Millard County, Utah, from 1910-1917.

Myron Alma Abbott was born February 15, 1862, in Riverdale, Weber County, Utah to Laura Josephine Allen and Myron Abbott. At the age of sixteen the family moved to Bunkerville, Nevada. There he married Mary Leavitt in 1881 and they had eight children together. In 1886 he moved to Annabella, Sevier County, where he served as a County Commissioner of that county and for three terms was sheriff. For a living, Abbott farmed and ranched.

In 1910 Abbott moved to Millard County and aided in founding the community of Sutherland. He moved to Delta, Utah, in 1912 and was active in that community as the organizer of the Sutherland School District, and as Supervisor of Millard County Drainage District No. 3. He was also active on local politics. In 1919 Abbott’s wife Mary died, and in 1920 he re-married to Eliza Brown.

Myron Alma Abbott died August 29, 1932, in Sugarville, Millard County, Utah.
